Excess water around your home's foundation can cause significant damage over time. It can wash away the soil taking away from the soils support of your foundation leaving it to settle and crack. It can allow build up of hydrostatic pressure that can break through the foundation wall and seep into the basement or build up and pour over the slab at the finger space. The costs of interior water damage can be extremely expensive to address while still needing to address the root cause first which is the water building up around your home creating the drainage issue.

One of the main reasons is that here in North Georgia we have clay soil which is highly compactable and doesn't allow surface water to percolate into the ground very well. Heavy foot traffic can further compact the clay soil leading to low spots in the yard where you could see water pool after heavy rains. Poor grading is another reason for low spots in the yard. Low spots in the yard where pooling of water occurs leads to the yard being saturated for a long period of time. Saturation of the soil makes it difficult for you and your family (including the dogs) to enjoy the outdoors. Saturated soil and pooling of water or standing water is also grounds for a mosquito breeding pit. Ultimately where there are low spots in the yard and no drainage system present you have a drainage problem that's affecting your quality of life and that problem will continue to exist until it is properly addressed.
